Before you get excited, there’s something you should know. This isn’t an open recruitment where anyone with a degree can apply. These are deputation posts, which means they’re meant for officers who already work in the government. The Department of Space Secretariat in Bengaluru has invited applications from eligible officers to fill 60 Group A and Group B posts on a deputation basis. If you’re a serving government employee in a matching cadre, though, this could be your chance to be part of India’s space programme. The notification is dated 9 October 2026, and applications need to reach the Department by 8 November 2026, which is within 30 days of the Office Memorandum. Since your application has to go through your own department first, don’t leave it until the last week. It’s also a good idea to confirm the exact last date in the official notification. The vacancies cover administration, accounts, audit, stenography and official language work, so officers from many backgrounds can find something that fits. Here’s everything at a glance: As you can see, Assistant Section Officer and Under Secretary have the most openings, and the pay levels range from 7 to 13. Eligibility depends on the post, and it’s based on the position you already hold. Officers from ISRO who hold an analogous post on a regular basis can apply. So can officers from the All India Services or Central Services who hold an analogous post or have the required years of regular service in the feeder grade. Take two very different posts as an example. For Deputy Secretary, you need 5 years of regular service at Level 11 in the administrative cadre, while for Assistant Section Officer, you need 9 years of regular service at Level 4 in an equivalent cadre. Because the rules differ for every post, read the one for yours carefully in the official notification. The maximum age is 56 years as on the closing date for receiving applications. Your deputation will last 3 to 5 years depending on the post, and the Department can extend or shorten it as needed. The total period, including any ex-cadre post you held right before, can’t go beyond 5 years. One more thing to plan for is the mandatory 3-year cooling-off period that follows every deputation or foreign service. You can keep your study books aside, as there’s no written exam. A Selection Committee looks at your service record and past performance, and then prepares a panel of selected candidates that stays valid for one year from empanelment. The notification doesn’t mention any application fee either. This is an offline process, so start by downloading the prescribed proforma, Annexure-A, from the ISRO website and filling in your bio-data. Then gather your papers. You’ll need attested copies of your APARs for the preceding 5 years and the Annexure-B certificate from your employer, which confirms vigilance clearance, integrity, penalty details and relieving assurance. A No Objection Certificate from your Cadre Controlling Authority must go along with it. Send the complete application through proper channels to the Director (Personnel & Administration), Department of Space, Antariksh Bhavan, New BEL Road, Bengaluru - 560 094. Please check everything twice, because applications without the required certificates and documents won’t be entertained.First, Who Is This For?
