Your Years of Training Could Finally Pay Off

All those early mornings, sore muscles and long tournaments were not for nothing. If you’ve always wanted a steady career in uniform, ITBP may have just opened the door. The force has announced 126 Constable (General Duty) posts under the Sports Quota, across 28 sports, with 72 posts for men and 54 for women. And there’s no written exam, so you can let your medals and match records speak for you.

Dates You Should Remember

You can apply from 3 October until 11:59 PM on 1 November 2026. Three weeks may feel like a lot of time, but we all know how quickly it disappears. Your sports certificate has to be uploaded with the form, so dig it out today, along with the rest of your documents. Your future self will thank you for not leaving it until last weekend.

Are You Eligible?

The easy part first. You need a matriculation certificate or equivalent, and you must be an Indian citizen or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan. Now the part to read slowly. Your sports result must come from a recognised competition, such as nationals, inter-university meets or Khelo India, between 1 January 2024 and 1 November 2026. A proud win from before that window, sadly, won’t count.

What About Age?

Eligibility is easier than you might expect. You need a matriculation certificate or equivalent, and you must be an Indian citizen or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan. The one thing to watch is your sports record, because only medals or participation between 1 January 2024 and 1 November 2026 count. If you’re worried about age, relax a little. The limit is 18 to 23 years, but sportspersons get 5 to 10 extra years depending on category, so check yours before you decide you’re too old.

Don’t Skip the Physical Standards

Being a great athlete doesn’t always mean you meet the force’s body measurements, so check them early. General category men need to be at least 170 cm tall, and women at least 157 cm. Men also need a chest of 80 cm that expands by at least 5 cm. Some categories and regions get lower limits, so look up yours in the official notification. Also remember that these posts aren’t open to physically handicapped persons or ex-servicemen.

Pay and Fee

Let’s talk money first. The job starts at Pay Level 3, with a salary between Rs 21,700 and Rs 69,100, and on top of that you get a free uniform, accommodation or HRA, and medical care. The good news is that applying won’t hurt your wallet. Men in the UR, OBC and EWS categories pay just Rs 100, while women, SC and ST candidates pay nothing at all.

What the Selection Looks Like

You’ll go through documentation, a Physical Standard Test, a Sports Trial Test, a merit list and a Detailed Medical Examination. The trial is less scary than it sounds. It’s worth 40 marks and is only qualifying, with 20 marks needed to pass, so it doesn’t change your rank. If you’ve represented India in an international event with Sports Ministry clearance, you’re exempt from it altogether.

How Your Medals Turn into Marks

Here’s the part every aspirant wants to understand. Your final rank comes entirely from the marks for your sports achievement, and only your single best result in the qualifying window is counted. Here’s how the main levels score:

Ready to Apply?

Head to recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in and set up your profile with an email and mobile number you actually use. Upload the certificate for your best sports achievement before you apply, because applications without it are rejected at scrutiny. Fill in the form slowly, pay the fee if it applies to you, and submit before the deadline. Offline applications aren’t accepted. One last thing to think about before you commit: selected candidates must serve at least 10 years in the Force.
