Working in the railways and looking for a move to a research and standards body? The RDSO Recruitment 2026 notification is out for 42 vacancies. There’s one big catch, though. This isn’t an open-to-all job. It’s a tenure-based deputation for serving railway engineers. Let’s go through what you need to know before you send your application.

About the Organization

The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) is the technical wing of Indian Railways. It’s based at Manak Nagar, Lucknow. RDSO sets standards, tests equipment and supports railway safety and technology.

What Is the Job Role and Daily Responsibilities?

There are two posts:

  • Sr. Section Engineer/Inspection/Electrical: 25 posts

  • Sr. Section Engineer/Inspection/Mech: 17 posts

These are inspection roles. The notification doesn’t list day-to-day duties, but inspection work generally means checking railway equipment and components against approved standards. The posting is Lucknow or other inspection units, as decided by RDSO.

Who Should Apply?

You should apply only if you meet all of these:

  • You’re a Sr. Section Engineer (Cadre Post) in Pay Level-7 in the Electrical or Mechanical department of a Zonal Railway or Production Unit.

  • You have at least 5 years of service as Sr. Section Engineer.

  • Your total APAR grading for 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25 is at least 11 marks, and last year’s grading is at least ‘Good’.

  • You have at least 5 years of residual service.

  • Your medical category is B-1.

  • You’ve had a 3-year gap since any earlier RDSO tenure.

You can’t apply if you got a penalty in a vigilance case during a previous RDSO tenure.

Salary Breakdown

Both posts carry Pay Level-7. The notification doesn’t give an in-hand figure, so be wary of exact numbers on other sites. Your take-home will depend on your basic pay, DA, HRA (which depends on your city’s category) and your usual deductions. Check the official notification and your pay slip for the real picture.

Required Skills

  • Solid knowledge of your branch (electrical or mechanical)

  • Inspection and quality-checking experience

  • Clear report writing

  • Good record-keeping and discipline

Required Documents

You need to send attested photocopies of:

  • Your Service Book (every page attested)

  • APARs for the last three years (2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25)

  • D&AR and SPE/Vigilance clearance status

The notification doesn’t mention photo, signature or file-size rules, so there’s nothing to resize or upload here.

How to Prepare the Documents

  • Photocopy every Service Book page clearly.

  • Get each page attested by your officer.

  • Arrange the APARs year-wise.

  • Keep a spare set for yourself.

  • If you’re emailing, scan everything in a clean PDF.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Skipping pages of the Service Book

  • Missing the vigilance clearance

  • Applying without checking your APAR marks first

  • Forgetting the cooling-off period rule

  • Sending it late. Remember it must reach RDSO by the last date.

Step-by-Step Application Tips

  1. Read both official notification PDFs carefully.

  2. Check your eligibility point by point.

  3. Collect and attest your documents.

  4. Route your application through proper channel, as the notice says.

  5. Send it to the Director General, RDSO, Manak Nagar, Lucknow-226011, or email it to the official address given in the notification.

Hard Copy Submission Tips

  • Use a sturdy envelope and write the post name on it.

  • Send it by speed post or another trackable service.

  • Keep your receipt.

  • Post it early. Don’t wait for 9 November 2026.

Interview Preparation Tips

There’s no written exam mentioned. A screening committee picks candidates on APAR (maximum 15 marks) and educational/professional qualifications (maximum 5 marks). So your best prep is keeping your records neat and complete.

Career Growth and Future Scope

The post is ex-cadre, with a 4-year tenure that can be extended or cut short. Promotion is only in your parent cadre. Still, RDSO experience adds real technical depth to your profile.
