Can You Apply ?

Most graduates can. You need a degree from a recognized university or its equivalent, and you must have it on or before 6 November 2026. If you're still waiting for your final result, you can't apply yet.

Typist aspirants will be happy to hear that the typing skill test has been dropped for this notification, although basic computer and typing skills are still expected once you join.

As for age, you should be between 18 and 33 years as on 1 January 2027. SC and ST candidates get a 5-year relaxation, and OBC-NCL candidates get 3 years. Before you pick your post preferences, glance at the medical standards in the table above, since they differ from post to post.

What Will It Cost ?

Most candidates pay Rs 500, while SC, ST, ex-servicemen, PwBD, female, transgender, minority and EBC candidates pay Rs 250.

Part of it comes back to you, but only if you actually sit the first exam. The refund is Rs 400 for the Rs 500 category and Rs 250 for the concession category, after bank charges.

How Will You Be Selected ?

There are four stages: CBT 1, CBT 2, document verification and a medical examination. CBT 1 has 100 questions to finish in 90 minutes, covering General Awareness, Mathematics and Reasoning, while CBT 2 has 120 questions in the same 90 minutes.

Every wrong answer takes away one-third of a mark in both tests. That means accuracy matters just as much as speed, so practise with timed mock tests.

How to Apply Without Stress

Head to the official RRB application portal and open the form for CEN 06/2026. If you already have an RRB account from an earlier notification, you can use the same login.

Be careful when choosing your RRB, because it can't be changed later, and you're allowed only one application. Submitting more than one can get all of them rejected.

You won't need to hunt for an old passport photo, since the portal captures a live photograph during the application.

Your signature is the one thing to prepare in advance. It should be a JPG file between 30 KB and 49 KB, with minimum dimensions of 140 × 60 pixels.

And try not to leave everything for the last evening, because railway portals have a habit of slowing down just before deadlines.
