If You Love Engines, Read This
Some people can tell what’s wrong with a vehicle just by listening to it. If that’s you, and you’ve ever pictured yourself in uniform, this notification may be made for you. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force, which works under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has invited online applications for 21 Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) posts. The posts are open to male candidates, including subjects of Nepal and Bhutan. It’s a Group C, non-gazetted job that starts as temporary but is likely to become permanent. Let’s be upfront about the timing. Applications opened on 28 September 2026 and closed on 27 October 2026 at 11:59 PM. That’s only a few days from now, so if you’re planning to apply, today is a better day than the last one. You also need to pay the fee online by the same date. The qualification here comes with a technical twist, so don’t skim it. You need to have passed 10+2, and on top of that, you need either a Motor Mechanic certificate from a recognised institution or ITI along with three years of experience in a reputed workshop, or a three-year Diploma in Automobile Engineering. Just a 12th pass on its own won’t be enough, however good you are with engines. You must have all of this in hand by 27 October 2026, so pull out your certificates today and check The age limit is 18 to 25 years as on 27 October 2026. If you belong to a reserved category, you get some extra room. SC candidates get 5 years and OBC Non-Creamy Layer candidates get 3 years, while ex-servicemen and eligible government employees get relaxation too. Keep your category certificate in the right format handy, because ITBP won’t entertain later requests to change category details. Of the 21 posts, 7 are for Unreserved, 7 for OBC, 4 for SC and 3 for EWS, and 10% are reserved for ex-servicemen. The pay is good for this level. The post sits at Pay Level 4, with a salary of Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100, along with allowances such as ration money, free accommodation or HRA, transport allowance and free medical care. And applying costs very little. The fee is Rs 100 for Unreserved, OBC and EWS candidates, and nothing for SC candidates and ex-servicemen. Be ready for a few rounds. You’ll start with the Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test, then go through document verification and a written exam, a Practical Skill Test, and finally a medical examination. The physical test only needs to be cleared. It includes a 1.6 km race in 7 minutes 30 seconds, a long jump of 11 feet and a high jump of 3.5 feet, with three chances at each jump. For the standard test, general candidates need a height of at least 170 cm and a chest of 80 cm that expands to 85 cm. This is where your workshop experience pays off. The written exam is a 2-hour, 100-mark paper, and a big 60 of those marks come from trade-related theory, with General Knowledge, Maths and Hindi or English covering the rest. After that, you’ll face a 50-mark Practical Skill Test, where you inspect vehicles, find faults and repair defects, and you need at least 25 marks to pass. Keep in mind that your final rank depends only on your written exam marks, so spend real time on the theory too. Apply online through the ITBP recruitment website. Create your profile, fill in your personal and educational details, add your practical experience if it applies, and upload your photograph and signature. Pay the fee if you’re in a paying category, check everything one last time and submit. Offline applications and payments by other modes won’t be accepted, so keep a printout of your application. Also keep in mind that selected candidates must serve at least 10 years and can be posted anywhere in India or abroad. The Deadline Is Close
