Want a railway job with a salary? Good news is here. The RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026 is now open. There are 1,215 vacancies under CEN 08/2026. You can start applying today 27 October 2026. The last date to apply is 25 November 2026. Let’s go through everything in words.

About the Organization

The Railway Recruitment Boards are part of the Ministry of Railways Government of India. They choose people for Indian Railways, which's one of the largest rail networks in the world. If you are selected you will be posted in one of the railway zones, across the country.

What Does a Station Master Do?

Think of a Station Master as the person who keeps a station running smoothly and safely. On a normal day, you’ll:

  • Handle train arrivals and departures

  • Talk to signal staff, guards and loco pilots

  • Follow safety rules without shortcuts

  • Stay calm when trains get delayed or something goes wrong

  • Keep station records updated

Visit the job post to find all the recruitment details.

Who Should Apply?

You’re good to go if:

  • You have a graduation degree from a recognized university by 25 November 2026

  • You’re between 20 and 33 years old as on 1 January 2027 (OBC-NCL gets 3 extra years, SC/ST gets 5)

  • You meet the A-2 medical standard

One thing to note: if your final results are still pending, you can’t apply this time.

Salary Breakdown

The Station Master salary starts at ₹35,400 basic pay (Level 6, 7th CPC). On top of this, you get allowances like DA and HRA. HRA depends on the city you’re posted in. Some amount also gets deducted. So your in-hand salary won’t match the basic pay exactly. It changes with your posting.

Skills You’ll Need

  • Good basics in maths and logical reasoning

  • Quick thinking when things get stressful

  • Clear Hindi and English

  • Comfort with shift duties

Documents You’ll Need

  • Live photo: you click it during the application, using a webcam or phone camera, against a plain white background. An old saved photo won’t work.

  • Signature: JPG or JPEG, 30 KB to 49 KB, at least 140 x 60 pixels, in black ink on white paper

  • SC/ST free travel certificate (only if it applies to you): PDF, under 400 KB

  • Keep your degree, date-of-birth proof, ID and category certificates ready for later

How to Prepare Your Documents

Sign on plain white paper with a black pen. Use running handwriting, not capital letters. Scan it in good light, then resize it so it fits the file size limit. Save all your certificates in one folder with clear names. It saves a lot of panic later.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying to more than one RRB. This can get you rejected.

  • Choosing the wrong RRB. You can’t change it later.

  • Using someone else’s mobile number or email

  • Signing in block letters

  • Ignoring the eyesight rules (LASIK candidates aren’t eligible)

  • Forgetting to pay the fee by 27 November

Step-by-Step Application Tips

  1. To ensure you are aware of all the rules, read the official notification once.

  2. Go to rrbapply.gov.in.

  3. Create an account or log in.

  4. Fill in your personal and education details.

  5. Pick one RRB and your zone preferences.

  6. Click your live photo and upload your signature.

  7. Check every detail twice, then submit.

  8. Pay the application fee, which is ₹500 (₹250 for eligible categories), and save the receipt.

Made a mistake? The correction window is 28 November to 7 December 2026. Each change costs ₹250.

Hard Copy Submission

There’s nothing to post or courier. The whole process is online. Just keep a printout of your form and payment receipt for your records.

Selection Process and Exam Preparation

Good news: there’s no interview. Here’s how selection works:

  • CBT: 100 questions, 120 minutes, with one-third negative marking

  • CBAT: you need at least a T-score of 42 in every test battery

  • Document verification and a medical test

Your final merit is 70% CBT and 30% CBAT. Practice maths, data interpretation and reasoning every day. Take mock tests often. And don’t guess randomly, because wrong answers cost you marks.

Railways give you steady growth over the years. With experience and departmental exams, you can move up to senior operations roles.
