Retired from a public sector bank in a senior role and looking for meaningful work post-retirement? The Central Bank of India is engaging retired PSB officers, Scale IV and above, for the post of Inquiry Authority on a contractual basis.

About the Post

The Central Bank of India, one of the country's leading public sector banks with nearly 4,600 branches, is inviting applications from retired officers to work as external inquiring authorities, handling departmental inquiries assigned on a case-by-case basis.

How to apply:

Applications are to be sent by post, not online. The last date for submission is 31 July 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Retired from a public sector bank on superannuation at 60 years, in a cadre of scale IV or above.

  • Not more than 63 years of age as on the date of publication of this notification.

  • Officers who voluntarily retired, resigned, were suspended, dismissed, or terminated are not eligible.

  • A clean track record is essential — no major penalty in the five years before retirement, no minor penalty in the three years before retirement, no ODI listing, and no crime record.

  • Sound physical and mental health.

  • Relevant experience in banking, HR, or industrial relations, or specifically in handling departmental inquiries as an inquiring authority, presenting officer, or disciplinary authority.

  • A flair for report writing and willingness to travel as required.

Term of Engagement

The empanelment is ordinarily for one year, extendable until the officer turns 65, subject to annual performance review.

Remuneration Offered

Instead of a fixed monthly salary, this role pays a lump-sum amount per inquiry case, based on the scale of the charge-sheeted officer and how quickly you complete the proceedings:

  • Scale I–III cases: Rs. 30,000–45,000 (SMGS-IV/V retirees) or Rs. 35,000–50,000 (TEGS-VI & above retirees), depending on turnaround time (60–180 days)

  • Scale IV & V cases: Rs. 40,000–55,000 or Rs. 45,000–60,000

  • Scale VI, VII & VIII cases (TEGS-VI & above retirees only): Rs. 55,000–70,000

An additional 10% of the eligible lump sum is paid for clerical and stenographic work. Faster, well-completed inquiries earn higher pay—turnaround time matters.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Appointed on a case-by-case basis by the Disciplinary/Competent Authority of the officer being inquired into.

  • Must not take up any other professional work that could interfere with this role.

  • Strict confidentiality of all documents and information gathered during the inquiry.

  • Must submit an undertaking not to be a witness, complainant, or close relative of the officer concerned.

  • Inquiries are generally held on bank premises, with video conferencing preferred to reduce travel.

  • Reports must be submitted within 180 days of appointment, unless an extension is granted.

  • Refusing inquiries without valid reason counts against you — three consecutive refusals may stop further assignments.

  • Performance is reviewed annually based on turnaround time and quality of findings.

  • No new inquiries are assigned after age 65; pending ones must still be completed.

Termination of Contract

  • This is not treated as re-employment with the bank, and regular employee benefits don't apply.

  • The bank can terminate the contract anytime, with 30 days' notice or one month's pay in lieu.

  • You must also give 30 days' notice if exiting early.

  • Termination can follow poor work quality, missed timelines, integrity concerns, or false declarations.

Selection Procedure

No written exam. Eligible, shortlisted candidates are called directly for a personal interaction, and the bank's decision is final.

  • Educational certificates and marksheets

  • Experience certificates related to departmental inquiry work

  • Recent colour passport-size photograph, signed across
